- Environmental pollution lawsuit by neighborhood residents of Corpus Christi, Texas, who were angered by the lack of concern shown by a refinery and a regulatory agency over contaminants found in their soil. Sampling from their yards found unsafe levels of lead, cadmium and arsenic. Residents' requests to have it cleaned up went unheeded. Slack & Davis attorneys, along with co-counsel, successfully sued the company for damage to 158 homeowners' property values. In addition, some of the contaminated soil was removed and replaced during the litigation process.
- Environmental pollution case representing 25 families in a Corpus Christi neighborhood's fight against a refinery's air pollution. Along with co-counsel, Slack & Davis proved the company had a high number of excess emissions, which released unsafe levels of sulfur dioxide into the neighborhood. Residents complained of respiratory illnesses, corrosion to their homes and cars, and falling property values.
- Contaminated drinking water lawsuit involving a raw sewage spill caused nearly 1,300 people to become permanently infected with the parasite cryptosporidium. The spill occurred July 1998 after a pump at a lift station failed during a thunderstorm. Many residents in the Brushy Creek neighborhood in Round Rock, Texas, became seriously ill shortly after the spill, and faced the possibility of recurring problems later in life. The illness can be potentially fatal to people with compromised immune systems. Slack & Davis represented 39 plaintiffs, including children, as they sought a fair recovery for their illnesses.
Please be aware that the results obtained depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. Often, recoveries are limited to the amount of available insurance.
