Selected Case Profiles
Following are summaries of recent or current cases litigated by Slack & Davis attorneys. In some cases, details of the case and recovery amounts are confidential, as required by the settlement agreement and Texas State Bar advertising rules. Results obtained depend on the facts and circumstances of each case. Often, recoveries are limited to the amount of available insurance.
- Injury to child
Our firm represented a young child who was injured by a faulty cattle pen gate. This was a premises liability claim against a county livestock show.
- Drowning of toddler
A company hired to repair a security fence around a home swimming pool left an opening in the fence overnight. The family's 18-month-old son crawled through the opening, fell into the pool and drowned.
- Death resulting from crash of ATV
A passenger on an all-terrain vehicle was thrown in a fall, struck her head and died. We represented her parents in a claim against the driver of the ATV.
- Injuries in crash of hot air balloon
Our client suffered burns and other injuries, after being forced to escape from a hot air balloon that crashed, then caught on fire.
- Injuries at apartment complex
Our client was injured when he fell as a result of a defective stairwell at an apartment complex. We recovered from the apartment complex's owner.
- Injuries in crash of personal watercraft
Our client was riding his wave runner when teenagers speeding on personal watercraft swerved across his path; he suffered extensive facial fractures and other injuries in the collision.
- Death from electrocution
The deceased was working on a cotton picker when it came into contact with a low-hanging power line. Our claim was against the decedent's employer and the utility company.
- Eye injuries due to exploding water softener
Details of the case are confidential, as required by the settlement agreement.
- Injuries to worker from collapse of structure
A carnival worker was injured when the German Fun House collapsed in high winds. The recovery was the maximum allowable under the defendants' insurance policy limits.
