AA587 settlements in progress
In December, Slack & Davis attorneys met with representatives from American Airlines and Airbus for three days in New York City. In approximately one-half of the firm’s more than 30 cases, Slack & Davis has received settlement offers.

“In some cases, the offers are reasonable, but in others, they are way too low. This means some cases probably will have to go to trial,” said Mike Slack who is on the executive committee of the plaintiff’s steering committee for AA587 litigation.

Ladd Sanger also traveled to New York for the negotiations. Sanger is a member of the plaintiff’s steering committee and has numerous cases related to the crash.

“Ten AA587 cases had previously been negotiated with close attention by Judge Robert Sweet. Those cases became what are called ‘exemplar cases,’ upon which other cases are negotiated,” Slack said.

“My overall sense is that American Airlines and Airbus have placed unjustified emphasis on a few exemplar cases that involved lower recoveries and are trying to ‘shoehorn’ much stronger cases into the same categories.

“Unless American and Airbus come through with more reasonable offers for the tragic losses of our clients, we’ll go to trial to ensure they receive satisfactory compensation,” Slack said.
