Mike Slack appeared on the CBS Evening News in a timely report produced by Jason Sickles about medical helicopter crashes. Reported by Lee Cowan, the piece questioned why 18 persons died during 2004 in air ambulance crashes, while only seven were killed in 2003. Slack also was interviewed on this topic for reports in the New York Times and Philadelphia Inquirer.

Slack advocates a triage system for air ambulance operations that would require a medical professional to judge the seriousness of an injury, using objective criteria, before an air ambulance is used to transport patients. “In many cases, injuries are not severe or compelling enough to warrant the risk of flying, especially during inclement weather, over long distances, or at night,” said Slack.

Mike Slack was also featured in a front-page profile in the Austin American-Statesman, written by Patrick Beach. Beach and Slack met in 2003 after the Space Shuttle Columbia crashed. Impressed by Slack’s insight into air disasters, Beach decided to do a profile, which appeared on Dec. 26, 2004. “That article sure made my parents’ Christmas,” Slack said. “I was honored to be included in the Statesman’s profile series.”

Rusty Allman provided background for an article in the Denver Post after the crash of a Colorado-based air ambulance in Rawlins, Wyo., that killed three and injured one. In 2003, Allman represented a medical technologist who survived another Mountain Flight Service crash in March of that year. Allman’s client Dolores Gigliotti has become a crusader for increased safety regulations for medical flights. Mountain Flight Service operates air ambulance services for Yampa Valley Medical Center.

Mike Davis and Mike Slack were named by their peers to the prestigious “Best Lawyers in America” directory, published by Woodward-White.

Donna Bowen was featured in an Austin American-Statesman article by Robert Elder, Jr., regarding the Chapter 7 bankruptcy of Brown Schools. Slack & Davis had settled two claims against Brown Schools. “In my opinion, Brown Schools negotiated in bad faith, then filed for bankruptcy to avoid payment,” Bowen said.
