Georgia Personal Injury Resources

Georgia was the last of the original 13 colonies, and one of the original seven Confederate States. Today it is the country’s leader in production of paper and board, textile products, and processed chicken. Personal injury tort law in Georgia is based upon the concepts of foreseeability and accountability. In other words, a defendant’s liability to a plaintiff is grounded in the rule of cause and effect.

Georgia has an estimated population of 9,919,945 and, in 2010, had a total of 978,162 civil incoming cases. This is 10,071 cases per 100,000 of the total population. In the state courts, there were 255,099 civil incoming cases, which is 2,626 per 100,000 of the total population.

Like the rest of the country, in Georgia, a signification portion of civil cases in the state courts are personal injury cases. These claims, also called tort claims, all involve some kind of injury to a person or to property due to the actions of another entity. Many lawsuits fall under this category, including medical malpractice, construction accidents, defective products, and traffic accidents. Traffic accidents generally make up the bulk of personal injury claims, and this is certainly the case in Georgia.
