North Dakota Personal Injury Resources

North Dakota is located in the United States region called the Great Plains. It is situated in the northern central part of the US, with Canadian provinces to the north. North Dakota has a great number of Native Americans. The name Dakota is from the Sioux word that means “allies” or “friends”. North Dakota has a special system for car accidents called no-fault insurance, which requires the owners of all registered vehicles to carry car insurance that compensates them for injuries they sustain in a car accident, regardless of whether or not they are at fault. Under this system, drivers involved in accidents are reimbursed for their injuries by their own insurance companies.

North Dakota has an estimated population of 699,628 and, in 2010, had a total of 35,633 civil incoming cases. This is 5,283 cases per 100,000 of the total population. Of the total civil cases, 363 are tort cases, tried in the District court. The tort trend in North Dakota seems to be going down but it has gone up in 2010.

Like the rest of the country, in North Dakota, a signification portion of civil cases in the state courts are personal injury cases. These claims, also called tort claims, all involve some kind of injury to a person or to property due to the actions of another entity. Many lawsuits fall under this category, including medical malpractice, construction accidents, defective products, and traffic accidents. Traffic accidents generally make up the bulk of personal injury claims, and this is certainly the case in North Dakota.
