Slack Davis Sanger Partners with Del Valle High School to Sponsor the Legal Academy Paralegal Certificate Program	Paralegals play a vital role within a law firm, helping attorneys with legal research, organizing, drafting, and filing court documents, and communicating with clients and other key contacts on a case. Given the value they add to a firm’s overall success, smart and capable paralegals are always in demand at law firms across the country. Slack Davis Sanger understands this significance and is proud to partner with and sponsor the Legal Academy Paralegal Certificate Program at Del Valle Independent School District.

Del Valle high school students in the Paralegal Certificate Program, spearheaded by Michael Cunningham, Government teacher at Del Valle High School, can simultaneously earn their high school diploma, BA or BS degree, and paralegal certificate, creating incredible opportunities for a student’s professional path post-graduation. The high school partners with an online college to provide college courses that are extraordinarily more affordable than a traditional college or university. Most courses cost only $35 and are offered on a variety of topics, including Civil Litigation, Criminal Law, Business Law, Torts and Personal Injury, and Commercial and Banking Law. Students are able to choose specific classes in these practice areas, allowing them to choose a course schedule that matches their individual interests and goals.  Through the creative use of third-party testing programs, dual credit classes, and international universities, students can obtain 163 semester hours of college credit $1,066 dollars. That’s only $1066 to conquer college!

Shania Castaneda and Priscilla Balderas are two recent graduates of Del Valle High School who obtained their high school diploma with their paralegal certification, as well as 30-50 hours of college credit each. As young adults entering the workforce, Shania and Priscilla now have skills and qualifications that set them apart from others their age, giving them the unique opportunity to work professionally in a law firm while they complete their college degrees.

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment opportunities for paralegals are expected to grow faster than average over the next ten years compared to other professions and occupations. As law firms continue to seek skilled and certified paralegals to assist in their practice, programs like the Paralegal Certificate Program at Del Valle ISD will see more demand and interest. Slack Davis Sanger is proud to support the program and its future graduates.
