Mike Slack on WKOW: Inside the Sauk County Crash Investigation

Aviation attorney Mike Slack was interviewed by WKOW in Madison following the October 13 crash of a Piper PA-46-350P Malibu Mirage in the Town of Dellona, Wisconsin, which killed all six people aboard.
The aircraft departed Kenosha County Airport shortly before 8:45 p.m. bound for Menomonie and went down around 9:31 p.m. in Sauk County. The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office identified the victims as five adults and one child. The NTSB has confirmed the pilot reported icing.
Slack told WKOW that investigators will work through who was flying, the pilot’s medical history, the aircraft’s maintenance records, and the weather forecast for that night. He explained that the spread of debris across a site is itself evidence, since an in-flight structural separation leaves a distinctive pattern. After that kind of separation, he said, “the wreckage gets dispersed.”
He noted that a preliminary report could come within weeks, while a final report with probable cause typically takes months.
Slack Davis has represented families in aviation accidents nationwide for more than three decades. We will continue to monitor updates as the investigation progresses.
