As aviation accident attorneys, Slack Davis Sanger pays close attention to reports released by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). One sector of flight that appears often in these reports is general aviation.
While looking through recent reports from the NTSB and FAA, something caught our eye: after seeing a sharp decrease in general aviation accidents from 2012-2013, the rate increased again in 2014. Our below infographic highlights the changes in the number of accidents between 2011 and 2014, as well as a breakdown of type of accident, and what the FAA is doing to prevent fatal accidents from occurring in the future:
As the FAA addresses concerns listed in the NTSB’s 2016 “Most Wanted” list, we hope to see a decrease in accidents with each passing year. Yet, even with these new strategies in place, the chance of an airplane crash is still an unfortunate possibility.
