Slack Davis Sanger in the Community
Our firm strongly believes in being actively involved in our communities by supporting local nonprofit organizations. In addition, our attorneys and staff volunteer their time and experience by sitting on boards, providing legal representation, and donating to charities through our Corporate Giving Program.
Corporate Giving Program
Slack Davis Sanger is committed to giving back to the communities in which we work and live through volunteerism and charitable giving. Through our charitable giving program, we support local organizations in the Austin and Dallas/Fort Worth metro areas by donating $1,000 every month to a worthy charity. We focus our philanthropic efforts on:
- Access to Justice
- Arts & Culture
- Child Welfare
- Environmental Stewardship
- Health & Safety
Every October, during the annual Slack Davis Sanger Oktoberfest party, approximately 25 guests are randomly selected to nominate a charity. One charity is then selected from the nominations to receive a $1,000 donation from Slack Davis Sanger. The firm will accept written requests for donations during the other 11 months of the year.
How to Apply for a Donation
To apply for a donation, submit requests to firstname.lastname@example.org with the following materials:
- A brief description or fact sheet outlining the organization’s background/history, goals, and population served.
- What is being requested (e.g., sponsorship, donation, etc.).
- Documentation that verifies 501(c)(3) nonprofit status (by providing an IRS determination letter).
- Please note in your request if there is a Slack Davis Sanger employee involved in the organization, and provide his/her name and how s/he is involved in the organization (e.g., board member, donor, volunteer, etc).
Qualifications for Consideration
To be considered, all charities must be registered 501(c)(3) corporations in good financial and public standing. We give priority to organizations that align with the firm’s philanthropic focus areas mentioned previously.
Slack Davis Sanger does not donate to individuals, conferences, carnivals, contests, political organizations, capital or building campaigns, labor or fraternal organizations, travel funds for expeditions or trips, incentive reward programs, or for-profit ventures.
Here is just a sample of the organizations which the firm has supported:
Team Luke Hope for Minds
Since 2017, Slack Davis Sanger has sponsored the organization’s Austin Marathon Team, which, as one of the designated charities by the Austin Marathon, helps raise money to fund their mission: to enrich the lives of children with a brain injury and give hope to their families through support and education.
For the past several years, the firm has sponsored the Austin NAMIWalks event, which is a 5k run/walk that raises awareness and funds for the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization dedicated to building better lives for the millions of Americans affected by mental illness.
Central Texas Food Bank
Each fall, Slack Davis Sanger’s Austin office takes time off work to volunteer at the Austin Food Bank to help feed the hungry in our community.
Salvation Army Angel Tree
Every Christmas, the Austin office adopts multiple children through the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program to allow them to experience the joy of Christmas morning with gifts under the tree for those who would otherwise go without.
Ronald McDonald House — Austin
In 2008–09, Slack Davis Sanger expanded its impact on the local art community and at the same time contributed to a worthy non-profit. Ronald McDonald House opened its new facility in 2007 in Austin next to Dell Children’s Hospital to provide lodging and support services in a home-like environment to families of critically ill or injured children. About that same time, Slack Davis Sanger committed to purchasing artwork to cover the bare walls at the new facility. We asked Mark Smith, director of Flatbed Press & Gallery and curator of the Slack Davis Sanger art collection, to offer advice about art selection. With Mark’s guidance, the project blossomed to include art from a variety of artists from emerging to well established, and included a variety of subjects, media, and styles. The official Ronald McDonald House art opening took place on February 19, 2009.
The Long Center for the Performing Arts
The Long Center for the Performing Arts was founded on the belief that the performing arts are essential components in the quality of life of our community. Slack Davis Sanger contributed to the Capital Campaign for this state-of-the-art, multi-venue facility that serves as host to a broad spectrum of Austin’s performing arts organizations.
KVUE-TV Five Who Care
Slack Davis Sanger sponsored KVUE-TV’s Five Who Care and Five Kids Who Care community service awards program for more than a decade. These programs recognize exceptional volunteerism by adults and children.
Austin Symphony Orchestra
Slack Davis Sanger and Frost Bank teamed up to sponsor The Austin Symphony Classical Series 2008–2009 season. This series presented renowned guest artists and exciting classical music to the citizens of Austin and Central Texas. Slack Davis Sanger managing partner Michael Slack also served on the Austin Symphony Board of Directors.
Children’s Medical Center Foundation
Slack Davis Sanger presented the Children’s Medical Center Foundation with a donation for an acute-care private room. The foundation is the fundraising arm for the Dell Children’s Medical Center of Central Texas.
