FCA Recalls More Than 100,000 Jeep Wrangler 4xe and Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe Vehicles Over Engine Fire Defect

Owners of 2023 to 2025 Jeep Wrangler 4xe and Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe vehicles have already been subjected to three successive recalls involving fire risk relating to the high-voltage battery systems of their vehicles. Now, FCA has issued a new safety recall involving the internal combustion engines of these same vehicles. FCA US LLC, the parent company of Jeep, has determined that the engines for these vehicles were not properly cleaned during the manufacturing process, leaving behind sand and debris inside the engine block.
This defect can lead to sudden engine failure, loss of power while driving, or a vehicle fire. FCA and Jeep admit there have been at least 36 confirmed engine fires — including multiple injuries —linked to this issue. Reports submitted to federal safety regulators point to more possible instances. The recall applies to more than 100,000 plug-in-hybrid Jeep Wrangler 4xe and Jeep Grand
Cherokee 4xe models. FCA’s recall announcement admits that FCA does not have a remedy for the engine defect, and that the defect may cause “[a] vehicle fire [that] can result in increased risk of occupant injury and/or injury to persons outside the vehicle, as well as property damage. A loss of propulsion may result in a vehicle crash without prior warning.”
This engine problem has caused sudden and unrecoverable loss of power for many drivers, and the risk of an engine compartment fire creates a serious safety concern. For families who rely on these Jeep vehicles for daily transportation and who are justifiably afraid to drive them, FCA’s recall announcement without a remedy has placed Jeep 4xe owners in a difficult position: face the risk of their vehicle catching on fire during daily commutes or not drive it.
